Recently, the first "Profound Insights with Subtle Words" Three-Minute Academic Speech Contest for Graduate Students, hosted by the Graduate School of NEU and organized by its Doctoral Student Association (Academic Promotion Association) of NEU, was held in the Jianlong Lecture Hall of the Science Building at the Nanhu Campus. The contest attracted enthusiastic participation from doctoral and master’s students across more than ten schools, including the School of Humanities and Law, the School of Marxism, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the College of Information Science and Engineering. After intense competition in the preliminary rounds, 20 contestants stood out and advanced to the finals.
This contest centered on the concept of "a three-minute timed presentation with popularized and accessible interpretation." Participants draw upon their research fields, skillfully using everyday analogies, vivid metaphors, and minimalist diagrams to present cutting-edge achievements in fields such as materials science, metallurgy, artificial intelligence, humanities, and social sciences in an engaging and relatable manner. Based on a comprehensive evaluation by the judging panel, Yu Xiaojun was awarded the Grand Prize. Wang Ruoyu and two other students won the First Prize; Wang Chenglei and three other students obtained the Second Prize, and Wang Chen and four other students were granted the Third Prize.
It is reported that the Contest uses "public accessibility" as its core criterion. It focuses on cultivating graduate students' abilities to refine research questions, articulate ideas precisely, engage in cross-disciplinary communication, and disseminate academic knowledge. By providing a shared platform for interdisciplinary graduate students to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and collaborate, the contest injects new vitality into fostering a robust academic atmosphere on campus and cultivating high-caliber innovative talents who meet the demands of the times.
